How to get to Madrid centre from the Airport
We explain you how to get to Madrid centre from the airport using the metro, bus, train, taxi or by renting a car.
ADOLFO SUAREZ MADRID-BARAJAS INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT:
Madrid-Barajas “Adolfo Suarez” airport is located in the Barajas district, 12 kilometers north-west of the capital, and is the closest airport to the city center of all the capitals of Europe.
Barajas airport receives all commercial flights arriving in Madrid from anywhere in the world, it is the first Spanish airport by number of passengers and the fifth in Europe.
Barajas has 4 terminals. Terminals T1, T2 and T3 are connected to each other by long corridors and kilometers of mechanical belts with a large variety of shops, restaurants and bars. Almost all international and domestic flights arrive at these terminals, with the exception of those operated by Iberia and its affiliates, which arrive at Terminal 4 (T4). A free shuttle bus connects Terminals 1, 2 and 3 24 hours a day with Terminal 4.

How to arrive from the airport to the center of Madrid by Metro
To reach Madrid airport by metro, take line 8 (Nuevos Ministerios-Aeropuerto T4), which directly connects the capital with Barajas international airport. There are two stops at the airport, one for terminals 1, 2 and 3 (airport T1-T2-T3) and another stop for Terminal 4 (airport T4). The approximate time from Nuevos Ministerios to T4 is around 18-20 minutes and to the rest of the terminals in around 12-15 minutes.
The price for entering and leaving the airport must be paid with the “airport surcharge” which is 3 euros. So if you purchased a single ticket (1.50 or 2 euros depending on the area) you must add the 3 euros of the supplement. If, on the other hand, you have a travel pass or a tourist pass, no supplement is necessary.
Between the “Aeropuerto T1-T2-T3” metro stops and the “Aeropuerto T4” stop there is a stop called “Barajas” which is not part of the airport.

How to arrive from the airport to the center of Madrid by bus
Barajas airport provides a bus service (Express Bus) that connects the airport with the city center; during the day it stops at the Atocha Renfe train station while at night it stops at the Plaza d how to get from the airport to the center of madrid in buse Cibeles. The Express Bus also operates 24 hours a day every day of the year. Same thing happens from Madrid to the airport: by day the Express Bus leaves from Atocha Renfe and by night from Plaza de Cibeles. The journey time is between about 30 minutes for T1 and about 40 for T4. During the day it has a frequency of 15 – 20 minutes while at night it leaves every 35 minutes. The ticket price is 5 euros and is paid on the same bus.
If you want to save money, in addition to the Express Bus, you can travel to / from the airport with other regular transport lines: bus number 200 (stops in T1, T2, T3 and T4), which reaches Avenida de America (from where you can take the metro to go anywhere in the city), and the number 101 that leaves from Canillejas with direction Barajas and stops at T1 and T2. The price of these regular lines is 1.50 euros per trip and the time is between 06:00 and 23:30.

How to arrive from the airport to the center of Madrid by train
To reach Madrid-Barajas Adolfo Suarez airport by train from the city center or vice versa, take line C-1 of the Renfe Cercanías railway. This line starts from Príncipe Pío and reaches Terminal 4. From there you can also reach the other terminals with the free shuttle service. The approximate duration of the route of the C-1 railway line from the center to Madrid airport is:
Estación de Atocha – Aeropuerto T4: 25 minutes.
Príncipe Pío – Aeropuerto T4: 38 minutes.
Estación de Chamartín – Aeropuerto T4: 11 minutes.
Estación de Nuevos Ministerios – Aeropuerto T4: 18 minutes.
Puerta del Sol – Aeropuerto T4: 22 minutes.
Méndez Álvaro – Aeropuerto T4: 29 minutes.
The single ticket price is 2.60 euros and the return ticket price is 5.20 euros. The timetables of this railway line are:
– First train from Príncipe Pío to Aeropuerto T4 leaves at 06:02 and the last train leaves at 23.33.
– First train from Aeropuerto T4 to Príncipe Pío leaves at 05.56 and the last train departs at 22.25h.
How to arrive from the airport to the center of Madrid by taxi
Without a doubt, the fastest and most comfortable way to get to Madrid city centre from the Airport Madrid-Barajas Adolfo Suarez is by taxi.
There are taxi stops in each airport terminal. The price of the service obviously depends on the destination, but if you are heading to central Madrid, that is, inside the M-30 ring road, the cost of the taxi is set at 30 euros per trip.
Car hire in the airport
If your idea is to rent a car as soon as you arrive at Madrid airport, you have many options for doing so. Barajas Airport has seven car rental companies that you will find in the arrivals area of Terminals 1 and 4.
To reach Barajas airport by car there are several ways to do it, you can take roads such as M-40, A-1, A-2 or R-2, always depending on the area of the city where you are.
Undoubtedly the fastest and most used road to reach the airport from the city is the M-40 (second ring road) towards A-1 or A-6.
